How a lookup works
1. DatabaseThe 1 million most-rated App Store apps are in our Mobile App Database and answer at once, by App Store ID or bundle ID.
2. AndroidAn Android package name answers when the same app was matched to its App Store twin: 428,000 package names today.
3. LiveAny other App Store app is read from its listing and categorized live with the same method as the database, usually in a few seconds. It is then stored, so the next lookup is instant.
4. Not foundAn identifier that is neither in the database nor on the App Store returns 404 and costs nothing.
Pricing
Each successful lookup uses 1 credit from your API plan, the same as a website categorization call. Lookups that return an error are not charged. For the whole database as a file, see the Mobile App Database: one-time snapshots of the top 100,000, 500,000 or 1 million apps from $999.

Errors

400 | The id parameter is missing or is not an app identifier. |
401 | The API key is missing. |
403 | The API key is invalid, or your monthly credits are used up. |
404 | The app is not in the database and not on the App Store. Android apps without an iOS version are not covered yet. No credit is charged. |
503 | The app could not be categorized right now. Please retry. No credit is charged. |
